Last month, the Parish Council stepped in to help save my favourite tree from the chopping by the logging ponies in Canada Woods.

My name is Robyn, I am 9 years old and my favourite forest to play in is Canada Woods. A couple of months ago I heard that some trees were going to be cut down, so I immediately went back to the forest to see which trees were being cut down. My Dad and I have this cave made out of a tree and a holly bush and we call it The Holly Crown. My Dad and I pretend it is a pub that sells butterbeer, a drink out of Harry Potter. When I went to Canada Woods to see which trees were being cut down, I saw The Holly Crown was being cut down because there were pink spots painted on it. I was very sad about this.

So I wrote to the Parish Council to say: you don’t have to cut all the trees down, so please spare me one tree – The Holly Crown.

Di Fraser, the Canada Woods boss, kindly asked the loggers to inspect The Holly Crown for me. They found out that although The Holly Crown structure tree is an ash tree with ash dieback disease, it has strong roots and is held up by other trees so it is not dangerous. Di even let me come and watch the logging ponies at work – the Comtois ponies were so beautiful. So The Holly Crown has been saved and I feel very happy that my Dad and I can play in it for longer. Thank you Parish Council!
