I am pleased to tell you that following much research and some fund raising the Parish Council have engaged a contractor to provide a solution, approved by the Environment Agency, to our eroding river bank and footpath. Along with this, the Parish Council have decided to create a public access slope to the river to allow safe river access for people and animals. The river bank will be retained by using a biodegradable fabric planted with native marginal plants which in time will create the support the river bank needs. This process will increase the biodiversity of the river bank, protect the footpath erosion of this part of MLAV2, and along with a natural sloping public access will be a real asset to Canada Woods. We will be requesting a permit for this work from the Environment Agency as Easterton Brook is designated a main river. This permit is called a Flood Risk Activity Permit (FRAP). 13 metres of river bank will be supported by this process which is to the first bend upstream from the end of the previous river bank repair from 2011. We really hope this work will be completed by spring 2023. Along with the tree works to establish a more open canopy to Canada Woods we can look forward to a beautiful sunlight dappled walk and a safe paddle in Easterton Brook next summer. I’m so excited!

I will be asking for volunteers to help with some of the minor work needed to enhance our community space very soon😊 Please get in touch via Facebook or send a message via our contact point on this web site if you are interested in getting involved. I am grateful to those who have already raised their hands.
