It’s National Tree Week 2025 from November 22 – 30, and Friends of Canada Woods and Community Park – Community Group is celebrating all things trees by organising the planting of hedging trees in Community Park, Market Lavington SN104DJ (nearest postcode)

Now in its 50th year, National Tree Week (NTW), from The Tree Council and partners, marks the traditional start of the winter tree planting season. At this time of year, young trees are dormant and so experience the least stress when being placed in their new homes. This gives them the best chance of thriving into maturity, with all the wellbeing and biodiversity benefits they bring.

The Community Group are excited to have arranged the planting of 105 donated hedging trees to denote the restored footpath MLAV2 through Community Park and which will help, once established, with the drainage in the Community Orchard. The Community Group hope children will help plant the hedging trees which are all native and have been chosen for their all-round colour, bright blossom and berries which are important food for wildlife

The planting will take place (weather dependant) on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd November 11.00 until 1 pm or the following weekend if very wet weather.

Children, especially welcome to bring their parents.

There are tree planting events big and small taking place all over the country during NTW – all you need is enthusiasm, warm clothing, and a love for creating new life from the soil.

And if you can’t participate in Planting trees in Community Park, why not simply find a few moments to hang out with trees?

The Tree Council has created lots of resources, from activities for little ones; to advice on choosing the ‘right tree for the right place’. They are available for download through the National Tree Week webpage. You might even spot some in DEVIZES LIBRARY – around 350 have signed up from across the UK to create literary tree displays.

Visit the www.nationaltreeweek.org.uk to find tree planting events, connect with all The Tree Council’s brilliant partner organisations, and access lots of fun and interactive resources – including a guided forest-bathing session and tree themed playlist.

The Tree Council CEO, Sara Lom said: “We are delighted to be celebrating National Tree Week, which provides a fantastic opportunity for all of us to come together for the love of trees.

“Trees and hedgerows help us tackle climate change, provide homes for wildlife, improve our health and so much more. We need to help them back and by getting involved, you’ll be part of growing a greener, tree-filled future for all of us.

“We’re so excited to celebrate our wonderful trees with everyone across the UK’”

Come and plant a tree with us – See you in Community Park 11 – 1 on the 22nd and 23RD November
